Hyphen was the spirit of his speech Nikos Androulakis in celebration of 50 years since the founding of PASOK with the proclamation of September 3. Identifying as PASOK’s perennial opponent, New Democracy and the conservative policies that keep the country stagnant, the president of PASOK-Change Movement stated that “we are here, not only to commemorate this great anniversary, but also to send a clear and non-negotiated message:

In this new period, PASOK will be united, it will be strong and ready for the big and difficult games ahead of us!”

Mr. Androulakis said he was happy that all generations of the party attended Zappeio, reflecting its cohesion. He glorified the founder of PASOK, Andreas Papandreouhe commemorated, among others, Melina Merkouris, George Gennimatas, Karolos Papoulias, Anastasios Peponis, for their contribution to the historical journey of 50 years, as well as the former leaders of PASOK, Kostas Simitis, George Papandreou and Evangelos Venizelos, who preceded them in step by sending their own messages about the future of PASOK, as well as the missing Fofi Gennimata for her brave and determined efforts to get back on its feet. “I invite you to continue this bold, charming and hopeful journey in the coming decades, building a new relationship of trust with the Greek people, having as a beacon our ideas, principles and values, but also a commitment engraved in stone, that we will not repeat that hurt the citizens,” he added.

Nikos Androulakis, through the story of an 80-year-old woman, said that on the evening of October 18, 1981, the Contract with the People was signed and he listed the great achievements of the Change with the government of Andreas Papandreou, the modernization and the European course of the country under Costas Simitis, the national responsibility assumed by the government of George Papandreou to prevent formal bankruptcy when “the client state of the Right brought the country to the brink”, as he said “and left the country with important reforms with a common denominator of transparency and accountability” ». He characterized Evangelos Venizelos’ attitude as a path of responsibility “towards the populism drums of all shades that threatened decades of acquisitions for the country.

Unwaveringly, he did not consider the political cost in front of the salvation of the country and the restructuring of our economy”.

The president of PASOK criticized the policy of the ND government because “after a ten-year economic adventure, the Greek people were really waiting for better days”.

Androulakis

“No vision, no plan. They are marching unrepentant with their only concern being the preservation of power,” observed Nikos Androulakis and emphasized: “That’s why don’t ask who PASOK’s opponent is: Our political opponent is New Democracy, whose policies are sinking them into despair the citizens. Only the hand of PASOK can open wide the exit door for Mr. Mitsotakis and his company. The victory against maintenance will be achieved with political proposals, with ethics and consistency. The road is not paved with rose petals, but it is a one-way street.”

Giving PASOK’s “own” stamp, Mr. Androulakis underlined how he stands by those who suffer the consequences of ND politics: “The path we choose – and I personally choose – is not the easy one. We will work harder, but be sure that the imprint we will leave as a government on Greek society will be worthy of the expectations of the Greek people”, he added and concluded: “So the time has come to take the next step together. From the political autonomy of PASOK, it is time to give all our strength for the autonomy of politics itself in the country. Let’s say it clearly: Together we will put an end to the doctrine that the economy decides, politics executes and society submits. With PASOK we will unite the progressive social forces of the country. Today, the unity, political autonomy and renewal of our movement is no longer in demand. We achieved this together in three consecutive election contests. PASOK is here, united and stronger than at any other time in the last 10 years.

No one asks us anymore with whom we will co-govern. On the contrary, we are charged with the responsibility of giving hope to the Greek people and a way out of the destructive governance of the New Democracy.

We are once again a movement of every age, every generation.

50 years later, PASOK is ready to become an agent of Change again. So let’s go fight this battle together.”
