In the letter to the president of the European Parliament, it is pointed out that the inappropriate behavior of the MEP
The president of the EPP requests the expulsion of SYRIZA MEP Nikos Pappas, due to “improper behavior”, from Roberta Metsola in his letter.
“The failure to take action constitutes consent to practices of hostility”, is indicatively mentioned in the letter signed by Eliza Vozeberg as the head of the Greek Delegation in the Parliamentary Group of the EPP.
The letter expresses concern regarding the recent reports in the Greek mass media “which brought to light a series of consecutive vulgar, racist, sexist and abusive attacks attributed to Mr. Pappas”.
“At a time when the European Union is calling for unity to tackle hate speech, it is worrying that a newly elected member of the European Parliament is adopting such behaviour. These actions are fundamentally against the principles and values of the European Union. Such statements have no place in an institution that represents the Republic, as it is the voice of European citizens.
In this context, we ask you to look into this case and call on the Left Group to take all necessary measures against the behavior of MEP Nikos Pappas, including expulsion of the Group, as this behavior is not appropriate for a democratically elected representative of the European Parliament. Failure to act constitutes acquiescence in hostile practices.
Sincerely,
Manfred Weber
President of the Parliamentary Group of the EPP in the European Parliament
Elizabeth Voseberg-Bryonidis
Head of the Greek Delegation in the Parliamentary Group of the EPP
Jeroen Lenaers
Chief Whip of the Parliamentary Group of the EPP
