The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Mayor of Glyfada Giorgos Papanikolaou
The 2nd Primary School of Glyfada was visited today, the first day of the school year, by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Mayor of Glyfada Giorgos Papanikolaou.
Addressing the children, parents and teachers, the prime minister said:
“Let me first from the bottom of my heart wish you a good year, full of smiles, full of love for knowledge, a year that will allow each and every one of you to progress, but above all to enjoy school and the process of knowledge.
Mr. Mayor, I want to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart for the very important work you have done, not only here at the 2nd Primary School, but in all the schools of Glyfada. You are a Mayor who has demonstrated in practice that you want to invest in the infrastructure of education, upgrading the schools, adding air conditioners – I heard a lot of applause from the children about the air conditioners -, putting in elevators, building nice playgrounds, which I learned are open for Weekend for the neighborhood kids.
I know very well that not all schools in the country – and please listen to this, especially the children and parents -, not all schools in the country are like the 2nd Primary, but we want all schools in the country to be like the 2nd Primary in terms of infrastructure.
And especially for the 5th and 6th graders, I know we still have some backlogs regarding the interactive whiteboards. Interactive tables, you will see in practice, are a great innovation. You will see a completely different lesson. You already have some, the rest will come. We have placed 30,000 such boards in all the schools of the country and there are still 6,000 left. They will be in by the end of the year.
I want again, because I don’t want to take too long, to wish you a good year, to congratulate your teachers and all the education officials, your parents and the Parents’ Association, which always plays a active role, together with the teaching staff and together with the Mayor, so that this school becomes even better.
And in closing, let me ask you a big favor: I want us to make an agreement, and I’m referring especially to the older children, those who may already have a cell phone, to agree that when we are at school the cell phone is in the bag. Shall we agree on this? We will agree to it and parents and teachers will help us in this direction.
Be well, thank you very much, have a good year.”
Earlier, the prime minister sent his message for the new school year through a video on Tik Tok in which he analyzed all the changes that the government has promoted in schools this year.
“Echoing what the prime minister said, we are here in Glyfada because the work that the Municipality of Glyfada, the Mayor, has done in school infrastructure is what we want to see done throughout the country through the “Marietta Giannakou” program. We will invest in our schools. Every year we will try to be better, with more permanent teachers, with better school infrastructure. Know that you are our biggest investment for the future”, pointed out the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
“It is a great honor to host you here today, at the consecration of our schools. We deposit our soul, our heart for our children, every day in our city. First of all for the schools and daycare centers but also for the places where the children play, for the places where the children play sports”, noted the Mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou.
The prime minister had the opportunity to talk with students, teachers and parents as well as to be informed by the director of the 2nd Primary School of Glyfada Marouso Hanioti about the programs implemented by the school, which implements the evaluation of educational work from the period 2021-22.
