Under the shadow of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the meetings of Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis with EU Foreign Ministers at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Upon his arrival, the Greek Foreign Minister stated that the two main fronts close to Europe will be discussed today at the Council of Foreign Affairs.

“We will discuss the situation in Ukraine with the new Ukrainian Foreign Minister and we will reiterate our unwavering support to her. This is not a simple war. It is a war against revisionism, a war that concerns us all.”

Also, Mr. Gerapetritis emphasized that the Foreign Ministry will repeat the firm commitment “for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, unwavering support for the two-state solution, the channeling of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the unconditional release of the hostages. We must prevent the spread of hostilities, which is a serious global threat.”

The foreign minister also stated that “the determination of the Europeans to present our values, the European values, regarding International Law and the peaceful resolution of disputes worldwide will still be discussed. And, of course, our commitment to prosperity and peace around the world.

Greece will be an elected member of the United Nations Security Council for the next two years. We aspire to be a constructive bridge between South and North, between West and East.

We will remain committed to respecting International Law in order to demonstrate that the world, in the turmoil of these wars, and under the shadow of authoritarian regimes, must return to the fundamental values ​​of the Charter of the United Nations. And to return to the fundamentals that united us after World War II”
