Demonstration of flexibility aimed at resuming talks on the Cyprus issue, the Foreign Office asked in response to a question from SKAI about what it hopes will emerge as a result of the series of contacts taking place this week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“As a guarantor and friend of all parties, the United Kingdom’s support for the resolution process under the United Nations is unwavering,” a spokesman for the British Foreign Office initially noted.
He then added: “We urge all sides to show openness, flexibility and compromise and work constructively with the United Nations to return to talks.”
It is noted that on Monday a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, who towards the end of the week is expected to receive the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
Today, the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is taking place, with the Cyprus issue high on the agenda.
