An increase of 6.6% was recorded in the turnover of the country’s retail businesses, with the obligation to keep duplicate books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, in July this year and amounted to 4.25 billion euros, compared to 3.99 billion euros in July 2023.

At the same time, there was an increase of 8.9% compared to June 2024, which had been formed at 3.91 billion euros.

For businesses in the retail trade, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with the obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in July 2024 amounted to 1.22 billion euros, marking an increase of 5 .8% compared to July 2023 which had been formed at 1.15 billion euros and an increase of 11.9% compared to June 2024 which had been formed at 1.09 billion euros.

According to ELSTAT, For businesses in the retail sector, the activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in July 2024 compared to July 2023 are:

  • Retail trade of watches and jewelry in specialized stores (15.6%).
  • Wholesale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (14.5%).

While the activities that showed a decrease are:

  • Retail trade of footwear and leather goods in specialized stores (26.1%).
  • Retail trade of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (8.6%).

The regions that showed the greatest increase in turnover are:

  • Region of Western Greece (10.1%).
  • Region of Central Macedonia (9%).

The regions that showed an increase in turnover in July 2024 compared to July 2023 are:

  • Region of Attica (4.4%).
  • Region of Central Greece (4.3%).

On the contrary, the region that showed a decrease is that of Western Greece (1.9%).

For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in July 2024 amounted to 1.52 billion euros, marking an increase of 10.8% compared to July 2023 which had been set at 1.38 billion euros.
