The Annual Activity Report of the Competition Committee for 2023 was delivered to the president of the Hellenic Parliament, Kontandino Tasoula, by the committee’s president, Irini Sharp.

As mentioned in a relevant announcement of the Parliament, during her meeting with Mr. Tasoula, Mrs. Sharp said that “last year the Competition Committee demonstrated a truly rich and multifaceted project, with important and innovative interventions in the economic life of our country , as well as with an excellent presence in the international environment”.

As he specified, in 2023 the Commission issued more than 20 decisions and imposed fines of more than 40 million euros, evaluated notified acquisitions and mergers, carried out 10 on-site audits of almost 40 companies, completed 2 sectoral investigations and one regulatory intervention.

It also carried out a series of other investigations and legality checks, as well as answers to a large number of questions from citizens, businesses and public authorities.

Mrs. Sharp also referred to the Commission’s international presence, both in the European and International Competition Networks, in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as in the UN Commission on Development and Trade.

The President of the Commission noted that this Report reflects the work of the Competition Commission under the chairmanship of her predecessor, Professor Ioannis Lianos, given that she assumed the duties of the President in January 2024 and pointed out that the work of the Commission “is demanding and the means required for its implementation over time need strengthening and renewal”.
