The importance of the Balkan states remaining in the European orbit was highlighted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis attending the meeting held today in the German capital within the framework of the “Berlin Process”. Mr. Gerapetritis also emphasized that in a time of crises like today, it is important that the European Union remains stable, through its enlargement.

“It is important that the states of the Western Balkans remain on the path of a European perspective. It is important to offer vision to the people in order to speed up this process which began with a Greek initiative 21 years ago in Thessaloniki and which we obviously fully support”, said the Foreign Minister, emphasizing at the same time that “all states must fulfill the criteria , to fully adopt the acquis communautaire and international law”.

“It is very important – critical – for the EU, in the midst of two wars, with huge challenges in the region and more broadly in the world, to remain stable. And stability comes with enlargement. A bigger Europe is a stronger Europe”, concluded Mr Gerapetritis.
