Three breath-taking proposals for the Greek economy were put by MEP Giorgos Avtias to the candidate for Defense Commissioner from Lithuania, Mr. Andrius Kubilius.

The Greek MEP asked to remove defense spending from the Greek budget, a development that will give real life to our country’s economy. He even pointed out that Greece is the first country in defense spending among all European countries, due to the ongoing Turkish provocation.

Giorgos Auttias also suggested that the financial support procedures for the Greek borders should be started quickly and that the strengthened guarding by Frontex should also be launched quickly, as the Greek borders are also European. This process requires resources that must be immediately committed to our country.

Finally, he requested the activation of the European Investment Bank to support the domestic defense industry. This will bring new jobs and significant financial relief to the country’s economy as we will have production of spare parts and exports to countries that need this equipment. The Commissioner-designate listened carefully to the Greek MEP’s proposals and promised to include them.
