The data ahead of the second round and who is “favored” – Attica is a key element, which is the “weak element” of both candidates
By Antonis Anzoletou
The numbers of the first round of internal party elections in PASOK they are revelatory and point the way to how the proceedings will play out on Sunday. A new political anthropo-geography has certainly been formed which the two gladiators will take into account. In the two electoral contests in which a second round had to be held in 2017 and 2021, voter turnout was approximately 25% lower. If it is repeated, this means that approximately 60,000 – 70,000 citizens who vote based on personal criteria will not come to the polls tomorrow. It is recalled that 303,223 members and friends of the movement went to the screens six days ago. The four who did not make it to the second round numbered 147,494 crosses. Therefore, the Nikos Androulakis and the Harry Doukas they are reportedly addressing approximately 70,000 – 80,000 voters who will “transfer” their vote compared to the previous Sunday in order to elect the new president of PASOK. The overwhelming majority of citizens who supported the first two are expected not to betray their choice.
The smaller participation is a fact that always favors the first, in this case Nikos Androulakis. Debate will not take place so that undecided voters can judge even at the last moment who they will vote for. Traditionally, the latter seeks the telephone battle, and this happened in this particular case, with the mayor of Athens accusing Mr. Androulakis of avoiding a confrontation with him.
The staffs of the two have taken in front of them since Monday their lowest percentages per region and through the network they have they are trying to change the image. Their weak point is Attica where the effort to reverse the situation will continue until Sunday by mobilizing as many citizens as possible. It is no coincidence that Nikos Androulakis was in Pyrgos, which is the “castle” of Michalis Katrinis, while he will visit Larissa where Haris Doukas was initiated. Anna Diamantopoulou and Pavlos Geroulanos appeared strong in Northern Greece and therefore his last stop will be Thessaloniki. Haris Doukas also looks at all the “weak” regions, focusing on Attica where the largest part of the population votes. Pavlos Geroulanos and Anna Diamantopoulou gathered together a percentage that reaches 40.64% and is not at all negligible. Both candidates met them without, however, publicly gaining a single word of support. The question is whether top executives who supported them throughout Greece “turn a blind eye” to some side, and for this the background is rich.
