The 2024-2025 interclub table tennis championships begin

by

The second two-day competition in the EFOEPA calendar, after the development tournament of Heraklion, Attica, takes place on the 12th-13th of the month and concerns the interclub table tennis championships. The first matches for the A1 and A2 National Divisions stand out, but the action is full of corresponding matches for the B’ National Division, as well as the local divisions.

An important difference this year in the way the championships are held is that in the playoffs the teams will carry the points of the regular season, while in the top division they keep the competition and the level high with new great names from abroad, always together with first-class Greek athletes.

In men’s A1, the first three matches will be held at SEF. With the champion Olympiakos and the runner-up Panathinaikos once again projecting as the main contenders for the title. The first derby between them is still delayed, it is in the seventh game, with EFOEPA not having announced dates for the third two-day game.

However, it has become known that the Piraeus will bring on Friday the Swedish “silver” Olympic medalist of Paris in single and team events, Truls Meregord, and the Athenians will bring the Portuguese three-time European champion in doubles, men’s team and mixed doubles and Olympiacos athlete until last year. Joao Monteiro.

In the women’s A1, five teams will compete in the SEF and three in the indoor municipal gymnasium of Florina. Each team will start with two matches and the diverse rosters raise questions from the beginning about whether AEK and Pera can threaten the champion Olympiacos and the runner-up of last year’s championship, Panathinaikos.

Also, in the seventh matchday the meeting of the traditional rivals for the first round, for now the eyes will turn to the double match between Olympiakos and AEK.

At Faliri stadium on Saturday at 14:00 the match for A1 men and on Sunday at 10:00 the corresponding meeting for women. Apart from the size and history of the two clubs, the dynamics they showed last year also counts, as the winner in both categories, Olympiacos, was followed by AEK with the bronze medal in the women’s category and fourth place in the men’s category.

At the same venue, Saturday’s women’s matches of Pera Athens, also a team in the top four of the playoffs with Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, will attract attention.
