The Turkish president said, among other things, that all jurisdictions at sea and in the airspace should be determined in accordance with international law
In statements about the Greek-Turkish relations the Turkish president proceeded, Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his flight from Belgrade to Turkey.
According to what SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, reports, the Turkish president asserted that the two neighboring countries have historical ties and emphasized that “they can demonstrate a will for a solution and leave problems behind.”
In detail, his statements on a related question:
“After the 2023 election, a consultation began to see if we could solve the current chronic problem between Greece and Turkey through special negotiation. We gave political support to this process together with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched a comprehensive study on this issue.
It is important there must be a will from both sides identify the problems, design and present their content and find some solutions.
Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will move to Greeceand will hold talks on these issues. We will discuss all these issues based on our holistic approach regarding the Aegean. Turkey and Greece are two neighboring countries with historical ties. The principle of good neighborliness is the key to the formula which will bring benefits to both countries. I believe that relations between Turkey and Greece are moving towards better days on this fundamental axis. From the beginning we approach the issues on the agenda of both countries with a solution in mind.
We say, “two countries can show their will for a solution and leave the problems behind”. We have wanted for a long time jurisdictions at sea and in the airspace to determined in accordance with international law.
As regional countries, we can only increase security and stability and to reduce the risks of collisions through dialogue and cooperation. We seek justice. Just as we have no ambitions for anyone, we are also absolutely determined to protect our rights.”
