Sokratis Famellos gave an answer to a question at the press conference he gave at the offices of the Prefectural Committee of SYRIZA-PS Achaia, on the occasion of the announcement of the office of the former president and the questions he is asking.

It is recalled that in his statement, Stefanos Kasselakis, stated the following: “There are serious questions regarding the upcoming conference, which need an immediate answer:

  • What exactly have been done to search for a venue for the conference and when did they start?
  • Is there a space lease agreement?
  • Which company has undertaken the election process?
  • Why isn’t the conference campaign open yet?

The answer to the above questions is decisive for ensuring the trust and participation of the party members.”

Here is the detailed answer of Socrates Famelos:

I am particularly impressed and I wonder if the former president is planning to send a new trial to SYRIZA for these questions that he raises in such an explicit way, but since the matter is quite serious, I told you that I find that an attack is made every day now on SYRIZA, which it contradicts any stated pursuit of a role in SYRIZA, but how can anyone ask if we are campaigning for SYRIZA when we realize at the same time that he is running a campaign on a parallel site, which is running competitively, and at the same time asking us if we are campaigning for the conference .

The conference, dear friends, must have a substantial political character in order for the organizations to reopen. When we fuel discord and tensions, I don’t know if it’s understandable, we drive people away. We want people to come to SYRIZA. An effort made for tensions and toxicity, firstly shows the inability to formulate a political discourse and, secondly, insults SYRIZA. We are here to guard SYRIZA, to support SYRIZA, to rebuild SYRIZA».

The upcoming elections in SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance are not only or more about the face of the president, but the existence of SYRIZA the next day“, stressed Sokratis Famellos, in his statements during a press conference he gave at the party’s offices in Patras.

Mr. Famellos emphasized “that SYRIZA responds to a social need. We must have a left-wing, progressive democratic party, which has the values of the Left and Democracy embedded in its DNA. At the same time, he should be able to serve unattached and to have proven with governmental work that he can get Greece out of difficult times.”

He also noted that more and more requests are coming from society “stop with the internals, enough of this misery, give answers to our own problems. I believe that the election of the president gives this possibility, because it also responds to the internal party debate».

Mr. Famellos, answering a question whether Mr. Kasselakis is entitled to be a candidate, noted that there is already a decision of the Central Committee that his attitude and his operation are inconsistent and incompatible with the role of the candidate.

I consider that the decision of the EC is absolutely justified and correcthe said and wondered:Why is the former president attacking SYRIZA, since he wants to claim his presidency and why is he wearing down a party in which he wants to claim his leadership? It is not possible, for a personal pursuit, either to wear out the space he wants to lead, nor for us to allow a legacy of the world’s ideas, struggles, and anxiety for the next day to wear out.».

Referring to the scenarios being circulated about possible departures of MPs from the parliamentary group, Mr. Famellos noted that “I have clearly stood, in the past, against the departures of previous colleagues. Any removal of parliamentary power by SYRIZA is removal of parliamentary power from society. It is a reduction of the opposition front against Mr. Mitsotakis and the plans he implements against society.”

Responding to a question whether, in the event that he is elected president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, he will extend an invitation to those MPs who left the party after the election of Kasselakis, Mr. Famellos replied in the negative, saying that “now I am extending an invitation to all those who consider SYRIZA their home, but I am not addressing another party. I have disagreed with their choice, but also with the way it was done».

He noted, however, that “my refusal, however, does not deprive me of the possibility of political collaborations. Because society demands that we have progressive partnerships on issues that concern it, such as accuracy, the rule of law or peace».

And he ended by saying that if he is elected, he will take initiatives from the next day that will be addressed to the parties that are placed in the progressive and democratic space.
