“In all the good things that are happening, there are also some unpleasant ones, leaving some fog in the Greek Police which is also unfair. What is certain is that the matter is being investigated and justice will be given to those who deserve it”, assured the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, after the leak of the names of the Greek FBI staff.

As he characteristically stated, “the Police are not afraid of murderers and thugs, but they are now, and as you see every day more and more criminal groups are being dismantled in many places and activities”.

“More revelations are coming about the Greek Mafia”

At the same time, when asked whether the gas stations in the country are controlled by the Greek Mafia, he replied that this is something that is being investigated in depth, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, the supervision of the Prosecutor and an in-depth investigation is being carried out to identify and disappear those who lead organized crime and sell counterfeit fuel, ripping off the consumer with software.

“A month after I took up my duties in the ministry, murders of members of organized crime, about which there was darkness for many years, were revealed and solved. This effort will continue and all those who, especially in recent years, have been trying to prevail with murders, will be exposed. We are on the right track, with dedicated officers and people in the service of Greece”, as he said.

“To look in the mirror as a whole as a society for juvenile delinquency”

Afterwards, Mr. Chrysochoidis also spoke about the alarming dimensions that the juvenile delinquencypointing out that for this matter we should “look in the mirror as a whole as a society”, as he stated that it is not purely a matter for the Police, quoting two facts.

“Last year, 7,400 juvenile offenders were arrested, this year 10,600 in nine months, of which 2,285 in thefts and burglaries, 873 in drug cases, 797 in bodily harm and the other 335 had a weapon. The worrying thing is that we have gangs that didn’t exist before, so this is an issue that needs to be managed in the family, in the school, in the square, in the local community. As far as we are concerned, there is 10201 which is picked up by trained police officers and they send direct assistance in a few minutes with immediate action with a police presence.”

Finally, the minister reminded that there are now much stricter provisions on the penalties for gun ownershipwith mandatory imprisonment of one year, while with regard to mafia of Mykonos he stated that this year there were no problems because 200 policemen were sent and stayed there for 2 months, dismantling a number of small organizations and eliminating the thugs from outside the shops.
