PPC unit 5 in Ptolemaida was visited by Stefanos Kasselakis who uploaded a video criticizing the government for its closure.

“It’s a state-of-the-art plant that leaves a very small footprint, despite the fact that it burns lignite to generate electricity,” he says in the video he uploaded, adding: “This plant has now become the epitome of violent ligniteization. That is, a false green development by K. Mitsotakis which makes this whole area economically vulnerable.
Instead of leveraging an investment of almost €2 billion and being able to have a smooth transition to green technologies and RES, instead we don’t even have a spatial map for green technologies. And we are closing this unit making the area financially vulnerable. An area with high unemployment and great poverty.
This is not a way to protect the local community in a phase that needs the support of the State”.
