The subject of discussion at European level is initiative of the Prime MinisterKyriakou Mitsotaki to send a letter to the President of the Commission to address the growing financial threat related to the wholesale gas market, according to government sources.
The Commission’s representative, Eric Mamer, commented that “in order to deal with these exceptional circumstances, the Commission is considering all possible options for urgent temporary price limits. “All the protagonists will discuss the issue and in the coming weeks we will present our options.”
For her part, the CEO of the French energy company Engie, Kathryn McGregor, stressed that “a pan-European ceiling on gas prices is needed in order to tackle the price jump and curb volatility in the gas and electricity markets.”
The proposal of Kyriakos Mitsotakis was also highlighted by the international news networks, while the Bloomberg presented the proposal in an interview with the Prime Minister.
