The announcement for the recruitment of 150 new border guards who will be added to the 450 border guards, who have already been hired in the last two years, was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis from Evros, where he attended the celebrations of October 28 on behalf of the government.

Mr. Gerapetritis visited the fence and said that the 150 new border guards will be hired to support the second line of defense and stressed that “the State will remain strongly supportive in upgrading the deterrent capability that exists here, so that the local society, our citizens in Evros, security and to always feel the state next to them”.

“Today I had the great honor and pleasure to be at the Evros, and in particular at the fence project, which was implemented in record time by the Greek state. It is 100% effective in terms of guarding the national and European borders and it is accompanied by a very great effort, which is paid every day by the human resources, who serve here in Evros – because the infrastructure projects are important” said Mr. Gerapetritis.

He added that “a coordination is always required between all the services of the Greek police, the army, the border guards and I want to state that the State will remain strongly supportive in upgrading the deterrent potential that exists here, so that the local community also feels our citizens in Evros, to always feel the state by their side. For this reason, 150 more border guards will be added to the 450 border guards, who have already been hired in the last two years it will happen in the next few days”.

And the Foreign Minister concluded: “For us it is absolutely important that there is security in the country but also that people feel safe and proud of the homeland, which will always be by their side.”
