The ex-prime minister had previously spoken against the judiciary, which caused the annoyance of Mrs. Adeline, who left the room
A sharp announcement was issued by SYRIZA after the departure of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adelini during the former prime minister’s speech Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the Council of Europe event.
“The departure of Ms. Adelini from the Council of Europe event, at the time when former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was on the podium and criticizing the management and manipulations leading to the cover-up of the wiretapping scandal, should be seen not simply as a moment of embarrassment but also as an institutional indecency, a sign of arrogance and a democratic deficit”, as stated in Koumoundourou’s announcement.
The SYRIZA announcement in detail:
The departure of Ms. Adeilinis from the Council of Europe event, at the moment when former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was on the podium and criticizing the management and manipulations that lead to the cover-up of the wiretapping scandal, should be seen not just as a moment embarrassment but also as an institutional impropriety, a sign of arrogance and a democratic deficit. Especially when the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court attended an event about democracy, a key component of which is criticism of the current authority.
The Tsipras shots against Justice and the departure of Adeline
Alexis Tsipras said characteristically:
“We can reasonably hope that the institutions of the Council of Europe will also contribute to the restoration of cases that constitute the biggest black spots, the open wounds of the rule of law in our country and which, unfortunately, opened in recent years. I am referring, as you will all understand, to the great scandal of mass illegal telephone surveillance. But mainly I am referring to the unthinkable for a European country, attempts to obstruct the investigations of the competent independent authority. And in the inability of the judicial authorities to identify those responsible and deliver justice”.
This specific position seems to have caused the annoyance of Mrs. Adeilinis who left the room with Mr. Tsipras commenting:
“The executive and the judiciary must listen, sit and listen, rise to the occasion so that we can talk about deepening the rule of law and not about a suffering democracy.”
