“I don’t mind being called ‘Stefanako’, but it shows ageist racism and homophobia – ‘I will not allow violence in Congress’
On his TV and in “Today» with them Dimitris Oikonomou and Akis Pavlopoulos was found as a guest o Stefanos Kasselakiswho talked about all the latest developments in SYRIZAas well as for his victory Donald Trump on US elections.
Initially, Mr. Kasselakis argued that the American people voted based on their daily lives and not based on the systemic views that he believes the Democratic Party expresses, expressing his personal disappointment with this development. “I supported Democrats, I have supported them all my life and I think that the Biden administration was a good administration for the USA. Beyond that, I think the Democratic Party should have been more prepared, with a more open process for electing a president.”
When asked what makes Trump so resistant, he answered that there will be no counterweights between legislative and executive power, which is not the case in Greece, where “there is influence of the executive and the judiciary.” At the same time, he described the election of the Republican as a very negative development for Greece, considering that the country can no longer rely on international alliances.
“It is now a question for Europe to show its autonomy. What we have seen in the European elections, where in essence Brussels is considered a headquarters, the same is true in the USA now. The people no longer want conventional wooden politics, they don’t feel that the diffusion of economic activity reaches their pockets, they have a lot of insecurity and look forward to more populist solutions. The progressive space has a great difficulty facing it, we have to create a new economic narrative.
“I don’t mind being called ‘Stefanako’ – Shows ageist racism and homophobia”
Then, the discussion turned to the developments in SYRIZA, just a “breath” from the Congress that starts on Friday, with Stefanos Kasselakis making a special mention of last night’s removal of two executives close to him, Mrs. Kasimati and Mr. Moraitis. “They removed these executives because they objected to the deletions they are going to make in entire geographies of the country. They are canceling entire events apparently where we have large majorities, like in Athens”.
At the same time, he emphasized that the numbers are overwhelmingly in favor of his side at the grassroots and congressional level, categorically stating that “obviously no one has the right to delete people, trampling on their constitutional rights.” As he said, this is something illegal and undemocratic. “Can you imagine if I had held a meeting at midnight with prescriptions?” One year we held Political Secretariats and there were leaks and accusations through the meetings. Can you imagine me deleting members then?’
Referring also to the incident reported by Theodora Tzakri on SKAI TV, that a member of the KOES told her “to tell Stefanakos that we will remove whoever we want from the Congress”, Mr. Kasselakis pointed out:
“I’m not bothered by “Stefanako”, after all, this also indicates an insecurity, you know, just like ageist racism and homophobia. The party is his people and he has shown that he wants me. As I have stated, we have over 56% of the delegates, who are not only clearly against the blockade, but also against all the anti-democratic practices that have been in place for the last two months. We have even seen an American president being elected and we don’t really know who has voted, who have been elected delegates, when this Congress will take place. This is absurd.”
“I will not allow violence in the Congress”
Commenting on the statements of Apostolos Gletsos that he needs the presence of the Police and the Prosecutor due to his instigation of incidents, he said that there will be no violence and that he will not personally allow it to happen. “We don’t need it anyway, because we are the majority there and everyone knows it. Personally, I don’t think about Mr. Gletsos, but it would be good for everyone to speak for themselves and not make judgments about everyone’s intentions.”
At the same time, he reassured that “no one will disqualify us”, while assuring that “we will be calm outside the pub”.
“The fact that 87 little “trumps” are accusing me of trumping me is the ultimate irony. Let them take a look at their own practices and let us try not to exclude anyone. The major issue is not whether I will be a candidate for president, but the exclusion of elected congressmen. Isn’t it sad that a whole Congress should be held to exclude a single man?’ he wondered, ruling out any scenario for a new party.
