“You have to be trained to use drones. You must learn to use anti-drone systems,” the Minister of National Defense said
“We are moving forward with a very substantial reform, the biggest ever. We have named it “Agenda 2030». In this context, the Reserve has an important role. The Reserve will also be reformed». This was emphasized by the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, who went today, Wednesday, November 6, to the practice field – shooting field of Litochoro where he watched the final phase of the post-troop tactical exercise “Named Hero ’24”, in which reservists of the XXIV Armored Brigade and the Special Warfare Command (2nd MAL and 2nd MKD) participate, as well as personnel of the 1st Army Aviation Brigade.
Addressing the reservists, Mr. Dendias added that “You have demonstrated these past six days – and today in public – that the Reserve can brilliantly fulfill its role».
The minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister of National Defense Yiannis Kefalogiannisthe GEETHA chief general Dimitrios Houpis and the GES chief lieutenant general Georgios Kostidis.
Mr. Dendias was informed about the retraining of reservists in the context of the exercise, the activities of which started on November 3 and are completed on November 8, 2024. Then there was a presentation of the objectives of the exercise and its execution by the involved military units.
The exercise “Named Hero ’24” was attended by the commander of the 1st Army “Achilles” Dimokritos Konstandakos, the commander of the 4th Corps of the “Thraki” Army Lt. Gen. Stavros Papastathopoulos, the commander of the Special Warfare Command (DEP) Lt. Gen. Prokopios Mavraganis and the commander of the C Army Corps “Alexander the Great” lieutenant general Athanasios Garinis.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Development Anna Mani – Papadimitriou and the MPs of Pieria Xenophon Baraliakos and Spyridon Koulkoudinas.
“Reserve exercises are a very important thing. They highlight the potential of the Reserve institution, in which I absolutely believe,” Mr. Dendias pointed out. “There is,” he continued, “a brilliant body of professional executives, but the muscles are the citizens who take up arms to defend their country. And this is a great honor, but also a huge duty, a constitutional duty of the Greeks».
“The world is changing, we must change too. We have to evolve to be able to defend what we have: our independence, our sovereignty, our sovereign rights” clarified Mr. Dendias.
“So we will create a very strong Reserve on a voluntary basis. We don’t need anyone who doesn’t want to help the country. There are many who love her and want her. And they are not just the majority, they are the vast majority. But it will be done at regular intervals. Because systems change, our capabilities are magnified, but so are the threatshe added. And he emphasized that “You need to be educated in the use of drones. You must learn to use anti-drone systems. Next time we’re here, drones will be flying over your heads».
