On Saturday at one o’clock in the afternoon he announces the details – Earlier, MPs Petros Pappas and Alexandros Avlonitis had announced their independence from SYRIZA, predisposing in essence the developments
His decision to resign from SYRIZA announced to the gathered people at his offices in Tavros o Stefanos Kasselakis.
After the latest developments at the SYRIZA Congress and his exclusion from the presidential elections, Stefanos Kasselakis decided to leave the party of Koumoundourou, announcing at the same time the creation of a new political body. “Tomorrow we will not go to this conference (s.s. of SYRIZA)”, said Stefanos Kasselakis.
Stefanos Kasselakis called the people tomorrow at one o’clock in the afternoon, in order to make announcements about what will happen next, possibly about the creation of a new political body.
The following is the speech of Stefanos Kasselakis:
Earlier, MPs Petros Pappas and Alexandros Avlonitis had announced their independence from SYRIZA, predisposing in essence the developments.
The chronicle of the rapid developments at the Conference
The venue of the SYRIZA conference turned into a battlefield when, early in the afternoon, supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis began to gather outside the hall, protesting the proceedings, resulting in serious incidents.
Due to the explosive atmosphere, the start of the conference work, which was scheduled to start at 18:30, was delayed for more than three hours as the accreditation process progressed with obstacles.
“The gathering of people who do not have the status of a delegate in the area of accreditation delays the start of the process”, say SYRIZA “circles” regarding the fact that the conference has not yet started. “All efforts are being made by the organizing secretariat of the conference to resolve the issue,” they add.
Crowds of people started gathering outside the “Gazi Live” center early in the afternoon. They are delegates who have received the sms from Koumoundourou, but also members of SYRIZA – including many supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis – who have not received the relevant message, but still remain outside the venue.
An incident was created when officials from the Kasselakis side tried to open the door to allow the gathered crowd to enter the center. Eventually the center’s security kept the doors closed.
Meanwhile, Stefanos Kasselakis and his executives left making statements. Earlier he said that “I will enter when the last congressman enters” denouncing exclusions. He also denounced the separation of delegates into VIP and ordinary members.
SYRIZA circles responded that the delays are due to members who have not received the message trying to be accredited, obstructing the whole process.
Specifically in their leak they state: “The SYRIZA conference is a democratic process in which the elected representatives participate.”
The same sources state that “since the conference venue has limited capacity, only the elected delegates can enter the conference. No one separates anyone into vip and non-vip. These are elected representatives on the one hand and unelected representatives on the other. At this moment, the gathering of friends and supporters of Mr. Kasselakis, who are obviously not delegates, are preventing the elected members from entering the conference room, thus delaying the start of the work. We appeal to Mr. Kasselakis and his supporters not to prevent the elected delegates from entering the conference area, not to obstruct the start of the conference. After all, he is also an elected congressman. The conference is a space for dialogue and democracy. Any objection he has, it is best to take it to the body and not to the television cameras. After all, the tickets for the eight are over.”
Kasselakis went and came… twice
Stefanos Kasselakis, who arrived at the venue shortly after 6:30 in the afternoon, claimed that he had not received the sms informing him that he was a delegate, while shortly before 7:30 in the afternoon he left.
The former SYRIZA president later returned to the venue where he called on his supporters to leave or go to his office in Tavros
“Six days after the elections, 20 minutes before the start of the Congress, the group managing SYRIZA has not announced how many delegates there are! No official results have come out (6 whole days!), Stefanos Kasselakis says in a post on social media, which he accompanies with a video of the crowd gathered outside the venue where the conference is scheduled to take place, in Iera Street.
He reports that “our own campaign issued (the very next day) results based on the signed minutes of the electoral commissions of the OMs of the whole country. According to them, the total number of delegates is 3587. Any… teratogenesis you see in terms of the number of delegates is the product of six days’ cooking.’
He adds that “as KOES members announced to the ‘official’ SYRIZA, we have on a usb stick (at their disposal) signed statements of 1936 elected delegates (until the morning, while the collection of signatures continues at [email protected]). These delegates have signed the following text: The following legally elected delegate is in favor of the participation of Stefanos Kasselakis in the elections for the nomination of the president of SYRIZA-PS. I stand against the exclusion of any legally elected delegate.”
Responding to the complaint of Mr. Kasselakis Regarding whether the SMS for his accreditation has been sent to Stefanos Kasselakis, party sources stated that “there is a case that he has declared a foreign mobile number that technically cannot receive the SMS from the sending provider or that no mobile number has been declared in the register”. “For this reason, he will need to search for and send the accreditation by email to the electronic address he has declared in the registry”, they add.
