Kostas Zachariadis spoke as a guest on SKAI about the dramatic extraordinary conference of SYRIZA, which led to the third split of the party, the rapid developments with the independence of MPs and the new party of Stefanos Kasselakis.

“Neither did we want anyone to leave, but neither could we return to SYRIZA becoming a personal party, a left-wing, democratic, progressive party to identify with the narrow views of any leader. We always stood up through these difficulties” he said and spoke of the “defection” of the MPs who became independent after the conference.

The K. Zachariadis described the party announced by Stefanos Kasselakis as “ideologically-politically and business friendly” in the center.

“It will be a party of businessmen,” he said characteristically, referring to “business interests” behind the Kasselakis party.

Stefanos Kasselakis from one point on was clear that he did not see the name of the collective but only himself. What he is doing now, this is what he wanted, with SYRIZA as a shell,” he declared.

For the next president

“I consider all the candidates politicized and worthy. I have big disagreements with Pavlos Polakis, but I appreciate that he takes a political stance on the issues. My opinion is that a person with parliamentary experience is needed (for a new leader). The crucial thing is to create a collective leadership group,” he said.
