OR Nicosia reacted to his reports Antonis Samaras about “delights” in Budapest at the meeting Christodoulidis – Erdoganin the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama.

Speaking at noon on ERTthe Director of the Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Viktoros Papadopoulos, clarified that Cyprus does not comment on internal issues of other states, especially Greece. However, with regard to the “gifts” which also concerned Nikos Christodoulidis, he emphasized that it was a discussion with substance and rejected the report of Antonis Samaras.

For the first time since 1963, a Turkish President sat down to discuss even in a coffee shop with the President of Cyprus, commented the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, noting at the same time that it is a Cypriot pursuit in the context of the effort to resolve the Cypriot issue within the agreed framework and from where we left off in the Crans Montana talks, “to talk directly with Turkey” which refuses dialogue with the legitimate government of the Republic of Cyprus. Viktoros Papadopoulos emphasized that they were not gifts. It was a conversation.

Asked about Samara’s reports of cooking and behind-the-scenes moves to impose an unfair solution to the Cyprus conflict, Viktoros Papadopoulos stated that there is nothing behind the scenes. There is only, he emphasized, the improvement of Greek-Turkish relations which helped the UN Secretary General to proceed with the Cyprus issue. However, as they are, he underlined, the continuous efforts of the Cypriot government always within the UN process and only this, but also the interconnection of Turkey’s EU accession process with the Cyprus conflict, precisely after these efforts and the strategy being implemented.

Fifty years is a long time, he concluded, to explain how each passing day creates new accomplishments. At the same time indicating that what is happening in our region shows that there are no “frozen conflicts”.
