The establishment of a police operations department in Argolis, based in Nea Kios, was announced, among other things, by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, after the conclusion of a meeting held today at noon at the spiritual center of the region.

At the heart of the meeting, which was attended by top and senior Police officers, were the issues of tackling crime in the area and strengthening policing.

As stated by the Minister of Citizen Protection, “we are here to declare that legality and law enforcement is a self-evident obligation for us and will be enforced against all“, adding:

Social peace is our obligation and we will enforce it together with local communities, in our democratic regime, showing solidarity with the vulnerable, but at the same time showing respect for the life and integrity of all our fellow citizens».

Afterwards, Michalis Chrysochoidis announced a series of measures that will contribute, as he said, “to the restoration of order and the strengthening of the residents’ sense of security in the area”.

According to the Minister of Citizen Protection, “from September 2025, by Presidential Decree, a police operations department of Argolis, based in Nea Kios, will begin to operate, in which 30 OPKE and OEPTA police officers will serve on a permanent basis».

But, as he noted, “until it takes a permanent form, within the framework of the program to combat crime and lawlessness in the area, which is already being implemented, 30 police officers will continue to serve, who fight against petty crime every day.”

As far as dealing with organized criminal groups is concerned, Michalis Chrysochoidis announced that “in the area there will be an officer who will act as a liaison with the Organized Crime Directorate, whose officers will visit Nea Kios, in order to establish, together with the local forces, a plan to track down and dismantle the organized criminal groups active in the area wider area».

In addition, the Minister of Citizen Protection referred to the unification of the two Security Departments – Nafplio and Argos – in a “unified strong Security Department in Argolis”, in order, as he emphasized, “to fight crime in the county”.

At the same time, he said that “local services will be strengthened with a peak, beyond the two urban centers – Argos and Nafplion – Ermionida, which is remote and often faces policing problems, due to the absence of staff”.

He also underlined that “security in the Epidaurus area is highly symbolic, as, especially in the summer season, from May to October, high tourist traffic is recorded, mainly due to the events, and every time we have to prove that Greece is a safe country and everyone deserves to visit it, for environmental reasons, for the beauty of the country, but also for cultural reasons”.

At the same time, Michalis Chrysochoidis pointed out that “security is our obligation, it is our responsibility”, adding: “We fully assume this responsibility and will protect the lives of citizens, their families, their children, schools and any form of social life that exists in this space.”
