The people who are expected to take key positions in the party around the new president and the role of the Chania MP, Pavlos Polakis.
By Antonis Anzoletou
Ready to assemble the new team with which he will attempt to give a new impetus to SYRIZA is the Socrates Famous. He will rely to a large extent on persons who supported him throughout the previous period, while he will also meet with him Pavlos Polakis.
It is self-evident that a position of parliamentary representative belongs to the MP from Chania if he himself wants it. With the announcement of the results, it became clear that he is now the second strongest pole within the party. Some were quick to interpret his decision not to run for the presidency as a strategic move. He did not want to risk opening the margin which is now below six points with the new president feeling his inner party breath.
He was hailed as brave for his decision not to inconvenience the citizens who went to the polls, but his remark that he represented “half SYRIZA” was a “bellwether” for his enhanced role the following day.
In January, it will be reflected in the new bodies that will be elected. Pavlos Polakis is expected to demand that the tones towards the government rise sharply. After all, he always followed this oppositional tactic. It is clear that he will play a leading role in relation to the program, but also the next goals that the party will set, parliamentary and non-parliamentary. The budget debate will be the first critical crash test.
Yesterday at the offices of Koumundourou, when Sokratis Famellos greeted the employees, he was joined by Dionysis Kalamatianos. It sounds like he can take the position of secretary of the KO.
In “key” positions expected to find among others the Christos Giannoulis, Miltos Zambaras, George Karameros, Simeon Kedikoglou, Katerina Notopoulou. The same goes for them Kostas Zachariadis, Thanasis Theocharopoulos. From the moment the information is confirmed that the George Gavrilos will be a special rapporteur in the budget, it becomes clear that the Argolida MP is “locked” in the SYRIZA KO.
The main speaker will be Haris Mamoulakis. Giorgos Gavrilos is expected to submit a question to the Parliament today about labor matters, while it seems that Sokratis Famellos has already contacted him.
Sunday’s result was for Koumoundourou an answer to Stefanos Kasselakis and the charges for what he had said about “black funds” and “hoods” after he was ousted from the presidency of SYRIZA. Subtracting supporters of the former president from the 43,000 who came to the screens of the local organizations for the congresses, the doubling of the participants caused many smiles.
For the 11,000 new registrations, they believe that it can be a first wave of repatriation of old members, who, as they claim, “want the return of politics to the fore”. They believe that the result, but also the climate, showed that SYRIZA has defenses after the sweeping passage of Stefanos Kasselakis. The goal now for Sokratis Famellos is for the party to escape from the polling cachexia it has fallen into.
Stefanos Kasselakis continues to plan the next steps of the Democracy Movement he leads. At interview he gave to Sia Kosionis and on the show PRIME TIME he ruled out both cooperation with Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with SYRIZA, making it clear that the conflict with Koumoundourou will not stop. He emphasized in high tones that “with anti-democratic parties there is obviously no framework for cooperation”.
He estimated in relation to the election of Sokratis Famellos that “SYRIZA and Mr. Famellos cannot inspire something different”. He also commented on the results of Sunday’s elections in a scathing manner, stating that “I am glad that they presented numbers so quickly, I wish they had done the same for the congressional elections where we did not know how many voted, who was elected, where”.
He expressed the opinion that the Katerina Sakellaropoulou she should not remain in her position since, as she said, “her stance on the wiretapping issue and in Tempe, but especially on the wiretapping issue, was not sufficient.”
To the question of whether he agrees with what he said Antonis Samaras regarding the management of the Greek-Turkish people by the government, Stefanos Kasselakis replied that he agrees with this criticism, adding: “I believe that there are indeed indications that discussions are taking place in closed rooms. We must be clear on national issues and that is why in the declaration of the Democracy Movement we were absolutely clear that we have a patriotic character, that there is not going to be any co-exploitation in the Aegean”.
