The debate began following a statement by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides on US Volleyball “on how the Republic of Cyprus can take advantage of opportunities so that, when everything is in place, Cyprus can become a NATO member state”.

The president of the DISY, Annita Dimitriou, spoke about the opportunity to cooperate with the western countries and NATO and called on the president Christodoulidis to proceed with consistency and credibility.

On the other hand, the Left Party, AKEL, called on the government and DISY to consider what the impact of the definitive burglary of Cyprus’s relations with two permanent UN Security Council members, Russia and China.

This is a fixed position of Turkey, which today, as in the past, emphasizes that a possible accession of Cyprus to NATO is impossible without the consent of Ankara.
