The Minister and Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum strongly condemn the shocking incident that occurred in the Malakasa facility where a minor was brutally abused
“The serious incident at Malakasa deeply disgusts all of us and is already under investigation by the competent authorities. The commander of the structure reacted immediately, while the police have proceeded with the necessary arrests. We are working hard to prevent similar incidents in the future, showing zero tolerance towards such acts.”
This is emphasized by the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, in his post on X, referring to the wild incident of beating and abuse of a minor in the structure of Malacasa.

“We are also shocked by the event”, noted the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum in her turn, Sofia Vultepsispeaking on an ERT broadcast, pointing out that the ministry’s concern is the creation of safe areas for minors.
“They are hosted in Malakasa 213 boys and of these 160 are children from Egypt. A very big effort is being made with the children from Egypt. Unfortunately, these children are very delinquent. We looked to find the reason and the reason is that the traffickers go to the poor villages of Egypt, they convince the parents to send the children to Europe to work and they send them money with the intention, of course, that they put it into organized crime. They take them to Libya, in Tobruk, where they have them in one huge camp and the torture. They prepare them for familiarization with organized crime. To harden them,” highlighted by Ms. Vultepsi and added that there is policing and protection within the structures because if it wasn’t there there would be many more incidents.
