Heavy fire was exchanged between the government and the opposition precisely during the second day of the budget debate in the Parliament, with the confrontation turning red between the Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos and the representatives of the opposition.

“Under the Mitsotakis government before the pandemic, inflation was almost zero. So don’t tell me about the government’s responsibility,” said Mr. Theodorikakos, arguing that the most important problem is faced by people who pay rent, stressing that in 2024 the government has succeeded in stopping the rise in food prices.

“Precision throws ministers. There are some corpses of ministers among us. A brawl has begun between you and Mr. Hatzidakis about who is to blame for the accuracy. You throw it at the rents. Citizens see two ministers fighting over an issue you cannot resolve. One tries to throw the ball to the other for accuracy. You should cooperate and I don’t know if Mr. Hatzidakis is happy to work with you”, said P. Geroulanos, accusing the Minister of not being able to deal with the problem.

“We have had a doubling of food prices since 2019. This is a consequence of your own obsessive policy of not reducing indirect resources,” commented Nikos Pappas from SYRIZA, reiterating Koumoundourou’s proposal for 90% taxation of banks’ surplus profits.

Responding to the parliamentary representatives, Mr. Theodorikakos addressed Mr. Gerulano: “Obviously you’ve never lived in the rental, sir. I have lived 20 years. The government has done some things for this world and must do more. We all know that for decades the development of this place was combined with excessive borrowing. We all know it exploded at the hands of your former president.”

Tones did not drop. Upon completion of the two men’s speeches, Mr. Geroulanos got up from his seat and reached the ministerial seats where he told Mr. Theodorikakos: “You said fat m… about the rents”.

“It’s sad and unacceptable”

Circles of the Minister of Development stated on the occasion of the episode: “It is sad and unacceptable that the representative of the official opposition party talks about dead bodies of ministers and rants in the corridors inside the parliament. The irritation when truths are told is not hidden. Everyone is judged for their morals and their behavior.”
