Greece is in advanced talks to buy 36 PULS missile artillery systems from Israel, Reuters reported, citing two officials.
Talks of the €600-700 million ($630 million-$735 million) deal come as the two countries are in negotiations to buy Israel a €2 billion anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense canopy.
The PULS system, manufactured by Israel’s Elbit ESLT.TA, has a range of up to 300 km. while the agreement also includes the manufacture of components in Greece.
The Greek government will submit the deal to the relevant parliamentary committee for approval in the first quarter of 2025, the officials told Reuters.
At the same time, one of the officials added that on Friday, KYSEA approved the supply of US-made Switchblade unmanned aerial vehicles from AeroVironment, AVAV.O
As the same source reports, most of the new artillery systems will protect Greece’s northeastern border with Turkey and its islands in the Aegean.
What are Switchblades?
Switchblades are roving munitions, which are portable and fired from a rocket tube. It only takes 10 minutes to prepare and shoot them.
- The Switchblade 300 weighs 5.5 kg, has a range of 10 km. and a flight time of 15 minutes. It travels at speeds of 101 km/h and can reach a top speed of 160 km/h.
- The Switchblade 600s which are the largest version weigh 14.5kg and have a range of 40km. and a total flight time of 40 minutes.
