After the speech of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the five-day debate in the plenary session of the Parliament on the state budget for Fiscal Year 2025, which will be followed by a roll call electronic vote, was declared “overdue”.

As said by the Speaker of the Parliament K. Tasoulas, during these five days (December 11-15, 2024) “in addition to the 9 general rapporteurs and the 14 special rapporteurs, 9 parliamentary representatives and 179 colleagues, that is a total of 211 MPs, spoke. Those who, in the end, asked and got the floor. 22 ministers, 3 deputy ministers and 4 deputy ministers also spoke, i.e. 29 members of the government, as well as the 9 presidents of the parliamentary groups”.

As observed by Mr. Tasoulas, the five meetings lasted approximately 68 hours, while he recalled that “in the last two years, when we had one of the longest five-day debates on the state budget, the duration of the meetings was 60 and 66 hours respectively. In the discussion of the 2025 state budget there was no reduction of time and everyone spoke with time tolerance. Also, the parliamentary representatives received the floor as many times as they requested, and much longer than the allotted time,” said Mr. Tassoulas.
