The suspension of state funding of their party Spartans provides amendment of the Ministry of the Interior which was submitted to Parliament last night.
In particular, it provides for the expansion of cases of suspension of state funding, thus including the Spartans.
Taking into account the fact that the Areios Pagos had forbidden the participation of the Spartans in the European elections, considering as the real leader Ilias Kasidiaristhe amendment essentially follows the disqualification provision, including in the sentence both temporary detention and actual or latent leadership, allowing the full House to decide to suspend state funding to the Spartans.
Furthermore, according to the amendment, it is provided that a party that does not take part in elections cannot receive state funding. With this provision, electoral funding is reconnected with participation in the electoral process, while at the same time requesting the return of related expenses that have been “unnecessarily” paid.
It is pointed out that the Spartans have received approx 85,000 euros as election funding, while the total amount of regular government funding is close to 1.5 million euros from 2023.
