Health, work, education, economy, accuracy, justice, housing, security: some of the words mentioned in an image – compilation, with which yesterday the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, wanted to show the government’s priorities for the new year. All of them concern the daily life of the citizens and their anxieties, as these are consistently reflected in all the polls of the last interval. “We move into the new year with the same commitment: to work consistently and efficiently so that these words become actions that make everyone’s life better,” was the message with which the prime minister accompanied the image.
It is clear that the performance of the government in the arena of everyday life they will judge to a great extent the effort to recover the losses recorded in the European elections and which have since been confirmed in the opinion polls. Based, therefore, on the citizens’ concerns and the areas on which they express the greatest dissatisfaction, the government’s priorities are formed. These are the fields that were also mentioned in the recent cabinet meeting, and it is expected that the priorities for each of them will be clarified at the first meeting of the governing body for the new year, which is scheduled for January 10.
On the Education front, special importance is given, as the new year opens the application process for the operation of non-state universities, a reform in which the government has invested a lot. At the same time, the operation of the full-day school and the creation of student residences in universities are at the center of the priorities, in order to address the increased housing needs of students, especially in conditions of a significant increase in housing costs. The implementation of the program for the operation of the 22 Onassis Model Schools is also considered an important milestone.
Housing is also a cutting edge issue and the government is investing in the implementation of the “My Home 2” program, which will open for applications in mid-January, with more expanded criteria compared to the first phase of its implementation.
In the sensitive field of Health, the universal application of the personal doctor is a central betespecially after the difficulties presented in the first phase. Reinforcement with NHS personnel, especially regional and remote Health units, remains an important challenge, as does the success of the institution of afternoon surgeries, in order to decongest the long waiting lists in public hospitals.
The security sector remains pivotal, as in all measurements it is high in the concerns of the citizens and a strengthening of the policies to deal with crime, delinquency and violence is expected.
Strengthening infrastructure and improving traffic conditions, especially in large urban centers, where significant problems are recorded, is also one of the key areas for improving everyday life.
Today the prime minister will speak at the event for the presentation of the National Strategy for the Protection of Minors from Internet Addiction. The interventions that will be implemented are aimed at three directions: the strengthening of parental control, the certification of the age of users and the dialogue with the platforms. In this context, the website parco.gov.gr will be activated, where parents will be able to find instructions and advice, while the Kids Wallet application, which will be launched shortly, will certify the real age of the user.
