PASOK – Movement for Change presented a proposal on eight axes for a safe digital future for children.

The eight main axes of the proposal concern the “shaping of a safe and inclusive digital future for the new generation”, with the faction pointing out in a related announcement that “the government did not proceed in time with the necessary actions and policies to protect children ».

The announcement

Today’s government recognition of the need to protect children in the digital world is long overdue. The announcements on the National Strategy for the Protection of minors from internet addiction are a first step that requires a substantial connection with the existing European and institutional framework, which for years has laid the foundations for dealing with the dangers of the internet. For PASOK – Movement for Change, shaping a safe and inclusive digital future for the new generation, tackling internet addiction and protecting minors on Social Media is a priority.

Greece, through the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the European Strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK+), had the opportunity to proceed with measures such as strengthening the digital education, age verification mechanisms and supporting the mental health of minors through information and support initiatives for parents and teachers. However, until now the government has not proceeded in time with the necessary actions and policies to protect children, despite the growing challenges, while at the same time hundreds of millions of euros are spent by the government on IT projects without provision for the development of digital skills among citizens as a whole.
PASOK – Movement for Change is committed to open a meaningful dialogue with the participation of students, parents, teachers and experts, in order to specialize practices that will offer effective solutions.

The main axes of our policy are:

• Working with digital platforms for safe online practices.

• Strengthening digital literacy at all levels of education.

• Special Helplines per Region to support children and parents, who will provide advice and guidance on online safety issues.

• Establishing a digital literacy course at all levels of education, with the aim of cultivating safe internet navigation skills, protecting personal data, managing screen time and strengthening critical thinking.

• School Psychologists and mental health services: Integrating mental health services in all schools with the aim of directly supporting students facing problems of addiction, cyberbullying and other risks, contributing to the creation of a safe and supportive environment.

• Support tools for parents to provide consent, manage children’s access time, limit exposure time to inappropriate content – working with our country’s innovation and technology community to develop solutions.

• Utilization of EU good practices. and funding research to understand the effects of social media on minors.

• National Dialogue on the Digital Future of children with the participation of parents, teachers, scientists and at the same time continuous evaluation and readjustment of the measures.

For PASOK – Movement for Change, the protection of children in the digital world is not just a policy – it is a responsibility towards every family, every child, every citizen of tomorrow.

PASOK – Movement for Change, with the DIGITAL GREECE Project, is committed to the protection of minors through policies based on knowledge, cooperation and the participation of society. Through dialogue, education and technology, we ensure a safe and inclusive digital future for the new generation.

PASOK – Change Movement invites all citizens, parents, teachers and young people to participate in this dialogue, so that together we can shape the digital future that our children deserve. On the digital society platform – digitalsociety.gr, ideas and proposals can be submitted by all citizens which are integrated into our government program.
