If the committee favors suspending the party’s funding, the matter will be referred to the full House, which is expected to make the final decision
Next Thursday, January 9, 2025, the Ethics committee of the Parliament will meet, in order to formulate its opinion “on the support of the conditions for the suspension of any kind of state funding and financial support of the party “Spartiates”.
In addition to the members of the committee, the president of the “Spartiates” party, Vasilios Stigas, has been invited to attend, if he wishes.
If the committee is in favor of suspending the party’s funding, the matter will be referred to the full House, which is expected to make a final decision, likely on January 13.
It was preceded by the passing of relevant legislation by the Ministry of the Interior on December 17, 2024. As the Minister of the Interior, Th. Livanios, “with the amendment the electoral legislation is completed which concerns the possibility, by a decision taken by the Parliament, by roll-call vote, to suspend the funding of a party, until an acquittal is issued by the judiciary, regarding persons who are accused to be the real leaders of the parties and have been convicted in accordance with the provisions of 187 and 187A of the Penal Code”.
