The president of SYRIZA, Sokratis Famellos, spoke to SKAI 100.3 and Pavlos Tsimas about the tragedy of Tempi, the large rally at the Constitution, and the parliamentary initiatives of the opposition.

Initially, Mr. Famellos said about yesterday’s demonstrations for Tempi: “What we saw and experienced yesterday and I personally who was in the Syntagma, but also throughout Greece and in several cities abroad, had unprecedented characteristics. There is such a huge turnout and at the same time such a resounding message. The citizens expressed an anxiety and an indignation, I would say, for the lack of justice and transparency in Greece. This is very critical when it is formulated as a social opposition, because it was an opposition, clearly… the responsibilities of Mr. Mitsotaki are listed in the subject. I must tell you that the responsibility of Mr. Mitsotakis for the cover-up that was attempted after the crime of Tempi. There is also a social reaction here. The demonstrations formulated a request for justice, transparency and there is the complaint of cover-up”.

And he went on to say that: “So what we have chosen is to discuss with the leaders, with the progressive parties and their leadership obviously, so that we get a initiative all togetherwhich can be a discussion before the dayit can also be a common position on many issues and I always refer to the issue of justice and transparency and in connection with the crime of Tempe, we will not falsify or misinterpret the mandate of the citizens yesterday”.

“I have already stated that the government must answer us what is its position on pre-investigation on the issue of swindling because there are very serious facts. We are waiting for the entire file to arrive, which must be completed immediately from the investigation with all the expert opinions so that there is no individual discussion, I want the discussion to be institutional and serious. This requires justice and transparency and that the responsibilities be assigned no matter how high they are, because I also think that the government should answer us for the responsibilities of ministers, certainly in the editing and the editing. But regarding the responsibilities for the crime itself, I want to add to you a new piece of information that the European Union has already sent a question to the government in response to Greece’s violation of important European rules, we have not complied as Greece in two directives and five regulations relating to safety management, accident investigation independence, staff training and risk breach procedures’; emphasized while adding that:

“OR involvement of politicians requires involvement of the Parliament. Lawsuits and case files have come to the Parliament regarding this matter from relatives or other complainants, who, because the investigation has not been completed, do not have all the evidence to make the process structured and safe. There is too much evidence that we do not want this to be another plea of acquittal process that was done with the 717 convention on political terms. Mr. Karamanlis should have been examined for 717 and he was covered by the government majority and it was a mistake.”

Mr. Famellos also emphasized that: “SYRIZA will not become a participant in this downfall. On the contrary, we are taking a serious initiative, which corresponds to what the society raised yesterday, so there was no party finger, bias, hindsight or anything else. What happened yesterday in Greece is shocking. At the same time, I must say that it is also tragic that the state television chose to bury it. I think we live in strange times. At least the progressive opposition must correspond to the demands of society and the youth of our country who want oxygen, we took this initiative, I think it was a good climate of communication last night, there are already announcements. It is more important to render justice and to have a sense of fairness and transparency in Greece, I think it was a progressive initiative for the opposition to achieve this for the benefit of society».

For the election President of the Republicthe president of SYRIZA commented: “…Mr. Mitsotakis chose to isolate himself in a party nomination and only the ND remained in the vote for Mr. Tasoula, we chose a cross-party candidacy of Mrs. Katseli”.
