Regarding the need to support the island’s farmers, Mr. Tsiaras noted that the granting of reinforcement through the De Minimis program for feed, as well as to improve the terms of agricultural production through the new CAP of the next programming period.

For their part, farmers from Crete emphasized that for many of the issues they raised to the responsible minister, they received answers, while others were expecting solutions next month, when there will be a meeting between the two sides as they said.
They emphasized that the meeting with Mr. Tsiaras had a positive sign and among the issues raised is the creation of a new “Rural District of Olive Oil and Olive”, but also a new subsidy program, through which producers can renew their olive trees, without incorporating the cost of work.
“We have set as a region all the structural problems that have to do with climate change, the increased costs related to the island and sustainability of the primary sector,” said Stavros Tzedakis, Vice -Mayor of Rural Economy, Stavros Tzedakis.
He added that it is “important to provide solutions to these problems facing agriculture, livestock and beekeeping” in order for “our producers to continue to produce”.
“I am in favor of dialogue and always when we talk about the problems and when we do it we will find solutions,” said Rethymnon Agricultural Cooperative Yiannis Gletzakis. He noted that Crete, due to its islanders, is facing burdensome costs by further raising the cost of production. “It bends us and we cannot produce and live, livestock farming has a burdensome cost.”
