The third vote in the House of Representatives for the election of a new PD is underway – this time a majority of 180 Members is required
The third vote in the House of Representatives is underway to elect a new President of the Republic, as the second vote of January 31, 2025, the two -thirds majority required by the Constitution was not achieved.
Both in the first and second vote, the ND proposed for the supreme state office, Konstantinos Tasoulas had received 160 votes, the proposed by PASOK Change, Tasos Giannitsis 34 votes, the proposed by SYRIZA-PS, Lucas Katseli 40 votes, and the proposed by Mr. Niki, Konstantinos Sunday 14 votes. In the first vote, 297 MPs had voted and 49 “present” were recorded, while in the second vote, all 300 MPs had voted and 52 “present” were recorded.
In the first and second voting required a majority of 200 Members, the third vote is foreseen a majority of three -fifths, namely 180 MPs. In the event that it is not achieved, a fourth vote will be held after five days (on 12 February) and will be elected President of the Republic, one who will collect the absolute majority of the entire number of MPs (151). If, after all, this majority is not reached, the vote will be repeated after five days and will be elected President of the Republic by a relevant majority.
