The funeral of Elsa Papadimitriou in Nafplio – What her family says

Elsa Papadimitriou’s family announced today that her funeral will take place on Saturday, March 19, at 15:00, at the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios, in Nafplio.

Elsa Papadimitriou was born in Nafplio in 1942. She studied architecture at Berkeley and NTUA, where she was a curator. He worked as an architect first in the USA and then in Italy and Greece, until 1989, when he decided to stop working in architecture to deal with public affairs, initially as general secretary of the Region of Central Greece (1990-1992) and in continuously as general secretary of the Ministry of Environment. (1992-1993).

He was elected Member of Parliament for Argolida with New Democracy for six parliamentary terms (elections 1993, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2009). He was Vice President of the Parliament (2007-2009), while in the period 2009-2011 he was an independent MP.

He was a politician with a “centrist” orientation. Throughout her public action, she consistently and vigorously expressed modernizing views on critical issues.

She was a co-founder of the Greece-Turkey Interparliamentary Initiative and chair of the Greek Parliament’s Inter-Party Committee for Monitoring Immigration Policy. It has taken important initiatives for peace (UN, Palestine-Israel, Iraq, Turkey, etc.), issues of equality, environment and sustainable development.

He developed a remarkable international activity, representing the Greek Parliament and the New Democracy in world conferences. He focused much of his activity on the Council of Europe, where he was head of the Greek Delegation from 2004-2007 and vice-chairman of the Environment Committee and, since 2007, Honorary Member of the Parliamentary Assembly. Elsa Papadimitriou had a daughter from her marriage to Spyridon Katsotas and had two granddaughters.
