Nikos Androulakis: Human pain has no color

by

On the day of the World Day against Racism and Racial Discrimination, the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, the Secretary E. Liakouli and the women members of the party’s parliamentary group welcomed 17 women from Iran, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria and African countries.

Victims of racism and gender-based violence, who, thanks to the contribution of the social network “Melissa”, are redefining their lives in our country.

“At this table we were united by the war, a Greek city, the Mariupolis leveled “described the horror of the war conflict women from Ukraine who took the road of refuge, adding that “this day is offered more than any other to hear the message of war loudly”.

Six Afghan lawmakers and three journalists said they had escaped from the Taliban regime, shocking them at the time of the departure of their young children.

“Human pain has no color” said Nikos Androulakis in their private discussion, with particular emphasis on issues of education, protection of human rights and meeting the need for accommodation of refugees. He even recalled his proposal in the context of the European Socialist Summit to have a common European program for the resettlement of Ukrainian refugees in all EU member states.

“One of the most important issues is respect for human rights. Respect for the need of every human being to prosper, to create, to live in an environment of security and stability. “Unfortunately, this meeting takes place at a time when humanity, shocked, shocked, is watching the tragic events of Mr. Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine,” the PASOK-Movement for Change president underlined.

For her part, the secretary of K.O. of PASOK-Movement for Change Evangelia Liakouli noted that “the message today is strong and is transmitted by those of you who have experienced war, political persecution, mutilation and racism. “We, the Social Democrats, are fighting for a Europe and a world that guarantees human rights.”

On behalf of K.O. The meeting was attended by: N. Giannakopoulou, T. Antoniou and C. Kefalidou.

Opening the discussion, Mr. Androulakis, among others, stated:

“It is a great honor for us to have the Melissa Network in the offices of our parliamentary group to discuss the great challenges of our time. One of the most important issues is respect for human rights. Respect for the need of every human being to prosper, to create, to live in an environment of security and stability.

And unfortunately this meeting takes place at a time when humanity, shocked, shocked, is watching the tragic events of Mr. Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine.

We condemn this barbaric invasion, it is a wound that has opened in the heart of Europe, creating millions of refugees. We have women from Ukraine and Afghanistan with us today, we know very well the effects of war on societies, it destroys people’s lives, it creates data that cannot be easily overturned.

We hope that this conflict, this illegal invasion, will stop quickly. For my part, last week I called on the Summit of European Socialists to take the lead in having a permanent mechanism for relocating refugees from Ukraine to European countries, so that we can help in any way we can.

Beyond the sanctions that push Russia to stop the invasion, beyond humanitarian aid, we urge the Member States to embrace the refugees and create an environment of stability in their new lives as long as this conflict lasts.

Thank you again for being here and it will be our great pleasure to hear your anxieties and discuss how we can help even more in the effort made by the Melissa Network “.
