Eight years after the shipwreck of talks on the Cyprus issue in Cran Montana and four after the last conversation in Geneva where the Turkish side has set the recognition of “dominant equality” for re -launching negotiations, the United Nations is trying to bring back the Cypriots.

The parties involved, namely the sides in Cyprus and the three guarantor forces, will take place at 20:00 in Greece at a dinner under Antonio Guterres where they will present their positions.

What is expected from tonight’s dinner is the head of the delegations, namely Nikos Christodoulides, Ersin Tatar, Hakan Fidan and George Gerapetritis to deposit his positions and exchange views, in the face of tomorrow’s day in which they will take action.

Small basket for result

Although the history of talks on the Cyprus issue shows that all scenarios are open and surprises must always be taken into account as possible, the course of recent years and the sides’ s positions leave much room for optimism for significant announcements to re -establish official negotiations. What is most likely is to try to end a road map that includes implementation of significant confidence -building measures by opening new barricades.

All this will clear up in Plenary of informal five -daywhich will take place tomorrow at noon at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. There, the positions of the sides and the conclusions of the Secretary -General will be discussed there more extensively from the bilateral meetings that will be preceded.
