At the event for the presentation of her new investment plan PPC for the Western Macedonia the prime minister spoke Kyriakos Mitsotakiswhich described the plan to create its creation as “visionary”, “ambitious” and “world -wide” Giga Data Center to Ptolemais

“I remember the stress that the inhabitants of the villages of Western Macedonia had the first time I visited it in 2008 for their future, as well as my own internal reflection, as in 2008 it was already clear to us that the climate crisis was a reality scientifically established and that we would be in a new way.”

“In other words, it has been clear to me since then that at some point the production of lignite energy would come to an end, and together a model of development that had been completely identified with the history and prospect of Western Macedonia,” as Mr Mitsotakis stressed. He then referred to 2019, when he decided as prime minister to move on to green growth faster, a decision that he described as “bold, but was justified by the evolution of events”.

“But 2019 still happened: the process of transforming PPC has begun. When the Greek people first trusted us in 2019, the price of PPC’s share had fallen close to 1.5 euros, with the business being practically under bankruptcy. We made very bold decisions, so today 6 years later PPC is an extremely robust business, a national champion, a company with a leading role in the rearrangement of the Energy Charter in the Balkans that can be able to envision and implement ambitious plans. “

“By 2026 PPC completes the apolitical”

The prime minister then spoke about the era of 2021-2022, when the country negotiated and claimed the first plan for Western Macedonia’s fair development, SDAM.

“Today things are much more optimistic and much more encouraging. But in this design puzzle I always felt that there was something missing, something was missing. There was something iconic. It was something that the local agencies have been told many times. Significant are the individual investments we make, but we will not be able to bring to Western Macedonia, a large, emblematic investment, an investment that will put Western Macedonia for good on the map of development, innovation, new technologies.

And so did things. This investment is launched by the company, which is identified with the history of Western Macedonia, which is none other than the Public Electricity Company. And when we first discussed this plan with George Stassis, we found that the more we put down the real data and the numbers, the greater the ambitions of the company. And obviously the Greek State, as we remain the main shareholder in the Public Electricity Company.

And the final end of this design was this presentation you saw today. I can’t describe in words how visionary and ambitious this plan is. It is a worldwide, not just European range plan. A plan that is fully convinced that a business with the financial health of PPC and with the support of the Greek state and with access to European financial tools. It will grow. “

As he informed, by 2026, PPC is expected to complete the apoptosis process, withdrawing the last lignite unit, which will be converted into an open -air gas unit. “As part of the energy transition, the company is making extensive investments to exploit old lignite areas, focusing on the development of photovoltaic parks, energy storage units, pumping units, new gas units and co -production.”
