The former mayor of Athens expressed his concern about the phenomena of delinquency and submitted his proposal to improve public security

Mr. Bakoyannis He expressed his concern about the phenomena of lawlessness, delinquency and violence that occur in many areas of the capital, especially in the center and in areas such as Gyzi, Kypseli and Exarchia, stressing that citizens do not feel safe because of the lack of adequate policing.
At the same time, he rejected responsibilities to the Municipal Authority for infrastructure projects that were interrupted on Streff’s hill and conveyed the indignation of the locals (as he typically said), which remains without electricity and protective grids for a year and a half. The former mayor spoke of “Non -completion of important infrastructure in the area that results in a sense of general insecurity for residents.”
Restoration of a sense of security can only be an absolute priority in a municipality and is the responsibility of the municipal authority through ‘Of an organized plan and work’ to create an environment that will discourage abusive behaviors, the former mayor stressed, insisting on ‘Need to strengthen policing’ and “Installation of cameras throughout the city”.
“However, there can be a police officer in every corner,” He said characteristically. “We need cameras everywhere in the city.”
Mr. Bakoyannis It brought examples of European cities where the installation of cameras has helped to effectively prevent delinquency. “There is no European city that has no cameras”he said, adding that it is a Municipal Authority’s job to ensure that cameras are installed in an effort to improve public security.
