Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis welcomed the Greek Parliament today an eight -member delegation of the United States Congress
“Our governments have their own conversations and meetings but today we are launching a new era in parliamentary diplomacy that can further help to strengthen relations between the two peoples,” said Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, welcoming the Greek Parliament today.
The delegation consisted of Messrs. Vern Buchanan, Head, Dina Titus, which also has Greek descent, Lloyd Doggett, Ted Lieu, Neal Dunn, Ilhan Omar, Anna Paulina Luna and Andy Ogles.
As the Speaker of the House pointed out to members of the American Congress, “you are the representatives of the House of House of A great friend, a country with which Greece has very close friendly ties, which we want to make even closer to them and today’s acquaintance with you.”
Mr N. Kaklamanis informed the US delegation that during his meeting with the US Embassy in Athens, Mrs. Maria Olson, she gave an invitation to the president of the US Congress to visit Greece for the first time in History, asking for him.
For his part, Mr. V. Buchanan emphasized: “We are here eight members of Congress who came to meet a strategic partner. It is very important for us to come here and build the relationship between Greece and the US and the partnership, to raise it to the next level. There were many places we could go. But we have chosen to come here and are committed to this purpose. “
Immediately after the speech, Mrs D. Titus, who is of Greek descent, as her mother is Greek. After expressing her particular excitement, she pointed out that “the relationship between Greece and the United States is very important to us as you are our most important partner on the east side of NATO. You are in a strategic position, playing a significant role in this side of the world, and we rely on you to play this role. ” She also expressed her belief that “we can reinforce the relationship between the two sides and that is what we want to do”, stressing the importance of communication with the Greek community in America in order to “discuss policies that are of interest to both sides.”
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Greek-US Friendship Committee and Chairman of the Greek Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and Defense, Mrs Dora Bakoyannis, the First Vice President of the House, Mr. Ioannis Plakiotakis and the Secretary General.
The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament offered to the head of the Congress delegation a collection of engravings depicting the Greek parliament and are copies of artwork in the House, while Mr V. Buchanan offered Mr N. Kaklamanis a Presse-Papier.
Following the meeting, members of the American Congress and the officials who accompanied them visited the House of Representatives.
