Successfully completed today, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis, the first complete operation of the European Train Control System on the Oinoi – Tithorea line.

Today’s testing of the automatic braking system involved cases of exceeding speed limit and red traffic light in telecommunications rail sections.

According to sources from the Ministry of Transport, the testing of the ETCS system was successfully completed and automatic braking was activated in the following cases:

  • First Case: When the train exceeded the specified speed limit provided for each part of the line.
  • Second case: When the train reached a warning signal (orange lantern), gradual automatic braking (deceleration) was activated. When the driver attempted to exceed the speed limits of the controlled braking, the train slowed down more until the immobilization.
  • Third Case: Then the driver restarted and attempted to violate the red traffic light. Immediately after the violation, the instant meadow was activated and the train was completely immobilized.

Fourth case (already operating, without the ETCS): In the event of a failure to perform duties on the side of the driver, there is already an active automatic braking system, 20 seconds after losing contact with the cabin rudder.

According to sources from the Ministry of Transport, the installation of the ETCS on the railway (trailers) has progressed significantly on the Athens – Thessaloniki axis and with Daniel’s rehabilitation projects in Thessaly signed on Monday, April 28, a very crucial part of the network will be completed. The installation of the ETCS on Board has also been accelerated to train the lines with the lines and to be activated when automatic braking is needed. Implementation timetable is expected to be announced immediately by Mr. Kyranakis as part of a presentation of the OSE bill.
