The acquittal of the 11 former and current MPs of the “Spartans” for the crime of deception was proposed by the prosecutor of the One -Member Court of Appeal.
The prosecutor, stating that the charge was not proven, asked for both Elias Kassidiaris to be exempt from the charge of morally and a lawyer who is accused of synergy. in the deception of voters.
“It has not been proven by any evil of a voter, there is no evidence of voters or at least the number of voters supposedly deceived. The first 11 defendants were selected by V. Stiga and not by H. Kassidiaris. They are not guided by H. Kassidiaris and did not intend the overthrow of B. Moments. The percentage of the party is due to the support of H. Kassidiaris but this is not a deception of the voters. There is no complaint of a voter that it was deceived. I suggest that the accused are exempted, ” The prosecutor said.
In their apology, the 11 MPs denied what they were attributed to, while Elias Kassidiaris argued that he chose to support the Spartans because he wanted the party to get a good result.
“There were my own voters who wanted to vote for me and their government refused this right … We came to an election result that I celebrated on the night of the election … If I lost the right to participate, I gave support to a party,” Elias Kassidiaris said who said: “This plan described in the indictment that I supported a president to overthrow him because I didn’t want him, he has reasonable gaps. Why do I do this and not support what I want from the beginning? “
Referring to the visits he had received in prisons by lawyers, he said it was reasonable for the lawyers to take over his defense, as television was constantly promoting him.
Earlier, MPs apologized that they were denying the charges of deceiving an electorate, claimed that they had never received instructions from the convicted Golden Dawn and stressed that they had no plan to overturn the party’s president Vasilis Stigas.
For his part, the defendant lawyer denying the accusation of complicity in his deception, said that “it is derogatory what is mentioned in the indictment, that I did so many kilometers to go to Domokou prisons to give me the commandments of Kassidiaris.” The lawyer also pointed out that “no voter has reported deception” and therefore, he said, “the accusation was not proved.”
Mr Stykas, who revoked the complaint of “Greek Mafia” conditions within his party, testified to the court, saying that he had fallen victim to incorrect information and that days after the election of party members in the House, there were huge pressure.
May 14 will continue the trial
The trial of the accused of deceiving voters will continue on May 14.
Following the exemption of the prosecutor of the headquarters, the court interrupted his meeting for the next week, when the trial will continue with lawyers. Immediately afterwards, the 11 MPs elected with the Spartan Party in the June 2023 elections, Elias Kassidiaris and their defendant lawyer will hear the decision of the One -Member Court of Appeal.
