ND’s reaction was caused by statements by PASOK spokesman Costas Tsoukalas to SKAI for Mother’s Day.

Mr Tsoukalas referred to the great inequalities facing women in their work life, saying that we have more women unemployed, underemployed and with lower earnings than their male colleagues.

Noted that “We have to see again how to support mothers and working mothers.”

In response, ND spokesman Alexandra Sedoukou described Mr Tsoukalas as a denial of progress that has taken place in recent years.

He pointed out that from 2019 until today, Greece records the highest decline in women’s unemployment in the European Union, while women’s employment increased by 8.5 percentage points – almost three times the European average.

According to Ms Sedoukou, this did not happen by accident, is the result of policies designed and consistently applied:

  • Extension of Special License and Maternity Protection for 9 months
  • The ability to transfer the permit to the father
  • Parental license allowance equal to minimum wage
  • The assimilation of the rights of the adoptive parents
  • The tax exemption of up to 5,000 euros for each child
  • Care and medical exam licenses
  • Full protection from dismissal due to parental rights exercise
  • The increase in voucher for nurseries by 20,000
  • The birth allowance of 2,400 to 3,500 euros

And, above all, the equation of self -employed mothers with employees: 830 euros per month for 9 months – a total of 7,500 euros, which, together with the birth allowance, reaches 10,000 euros.

“We continue with the same goal: to make the mother’s daily life fairer, more humane, more supportive. Every day,” the ND spokesman concludes.
