The Deputy Minister of National Defense, Athanasios Davakis, described the Memorandum of Understanding with Egypt “yet another proof of Greece’s excellent relationship with the Arab Republic of Egypt”.

“It is clear that this Memorandum reinforces, strengthens our relations with Egypt, creates a prosperous prospect of foreign policy in the wider region, a policy that has been constantly and consistently established and practiced by the ND government,” said Davakis.
The chairman of the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, Dora Bakoyannis, in a brief intervention underlined that “the case of research and rescue has been involved in Greece’s foreign policy for many years.”
“Research and rescue issues have a basic humanitarian objective but the areas practiced are sometimes disputed. We have agreed right now and it is good that we are sending our message to the Egyptian Parliament that the Greek Parliament is in agreement. Our relations with Egypt at this time are excellent and it is in the interest of our country to strengthen them to the greatest extent, “Ms Bakoyannis said.
PASOK’s rapporteur, Michalis Katrinis, stressed that “the agreement reinforces the presence of our country in a critical business field and guarantees its role in providing research and rescue services, in collaboration with a strategic partner, such as Egypt.”
“It is an agreement that can contribute to the consolidation of Greek presence in areas systematically disputed by Turkish review policy.
“For the fact that Greece’s responsibility in the fields of Research and Rescue, as defined by the competent international bodies is explicitly recognized, is of particular importance, as the Greek competence in Fir Athens and the area of ​​responsibility of the Piraeus Business Center is shielded, a jurisdiction of us.”
SYRIZA’s rapporteur, George Gavrilos, also appeared as a supporter, describing “the Greek-Egyptian Memorandum of Understanding, as it moves contrary to the line of Ankara and the doctrine of the blue homeland”.
