The assurance that as long as the unprecedented prices and price increases in energy last, there will be horizontal support and specialized measures for specific groups was given by the government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, speaking to SKAI and the show “Simera”.
He noted that all procedures are being carried out, so that in the coming days the measures announced last week will be imprinted in the pockets of households in order to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.
Commenting on the results of the marathon Energy Summit held yesterday in Brussels, Mr. Economou said that “another important step was taken for the gas ceiling. The negotiations were also a difficult step. When the Council started, this directive to the Commission was not in the text of the conclusions. However, there was harsh insistence from Kyriakos Mitsotakis, but also from the leaders of the South. “If we do not find a pan-European solution to electricity and gas, no government on its own will be able to respond to household and business increases.”
He added that at yesterday’s meeting of the European Council, the Greek government achieved two very important things:
Firstly, to include in the text of the conclusions a clear instruction to the European Commission to look at the proposal for a ceiling on the stock prices of natural gas internationally and secondly to redefine the way in which the limit price is formed, something extremely complex, so that electricity is cheaper. in Europe, for everyone.
“What is happening in Europe is to have even greater room for a pan-European response to an international and imported crisis in the country. At the same time, the implementation of the national support plan for society continues. Any reduction in the price of natural gas at European level we will take care with the mechanisms and tools that we have to have the corresponding imprint in Greece. “Already, from the moment this talk of a ceiling began, a de-escalation in international prices began,” the government spokesman said characteristically.
He also made special reference to the EU agreement with the US on the supply and storage of natural gas, emphasizing that this decision ensures the security of the supply chain and strengthens our independence from the Russian market, while it will have a positive effect on costs.
Finally, Mr. Economou pointed out that for the first time this year, children who study in public vocational schools, in addition to their place of origin, are entitled to the housing allowance.
