Juvenile delinquency is one of the most serious problems of the time. Treating it requires national strategy and broader consensus, and should not be a field of political confrontation – especially when this strategy is based on suggestions of specialized scientists from many different fields.“, Notes ND spokesman Alexandra Sedoukou.

The announcement:

“In the New Democracy we believe that preventing violence and infringement in young people requires support and care – but also plan, institutions and actions. We do not disagree with the need for empathy and emotional education. But these are not enough on their own. Above all, we must really be with children and the family – not only in words, but with policies and tools that support them in practice.

PASOK’s announcement remains in the realm of theory and naivety. We would propose to PASOK, as the first step, to read the national strategy to prevent violence and address the delinquency of minors. And, instead of reports of ideas, they tell us specifically: with which of the 29 policies and 69 meters agree with what they disagree with.

Since 2019, the New Democracy government has been implementing a holistic and effective framework for policies and actions, which is consistently implemented and expanded until 2030.

Let us remind PASOK that:

  1. The New Democracy government was the first to create the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, with the aim of promoting gender equality policies, protecting the child, strengthening the family and tackling the demographic problem in a coordinated and holistic way.
  2. We established the law “we live in harmony together – we break the silence”, which introduced comprehensive mechanisms of prevention, timely recognition and immediate intervention in incidents of violence and bullying within school units.
  3. We have put in place the Stopbullying.gov.gr platform, through which students, parents and teachers can report incidents and receive support.
  4. We have activated the Kids Wallet application, which enables parents to monitor and manage their children’s online activity by checking both the time of use and access to inappropriate content.

As part of the National Strategy 2025–2030, we are making critical interventions:

  1. We enhance the prevention of domestic violence through positive parentality, developing educational and support programs for parents and carers – both digitally and live, taking into account the particular needs of families.
  2. We reform the institution of miscarriage so that it can be implemented within the school, with the participation of the student in special pedagogical programs.
  3. We adopt the model of social work, enabling students to participate in social activities or to provide help, rather than moving away from the school environment.
  4. We promote mediation between students, enhancing peaceful resolution of differences and cultivating a dialogue culture.
  5. We have set up technical gymnasiums from 2026, offering alternative training and reducing school leakage.
  6. We have strengthened the human resources of schools, with 4,226 psychologists and social workers already present in school units
  7. We have trained 22,663 teachers so that they can adequate incidents of violence and crisis.

Society is calling for serious policies, applicable solutions and a state present. You need love, care, empathy and solidarity – but also institutions, tools and determination.
And that’s exactly what the New Democracy is doing. “
