“The situation in the broader Middle East is extremely exquisite and complex, concerned the European Union and causes serious tricks in the global security architecture,” Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said on arrival at the European Union Foreign Affairs Council.
“I will particularly refer to the issue of the terrorist attack on the Holy Temple of Prophet Elias, in Damascus, where they lost their lives,” he said, adding: “It is a blind blow that highlights the tension and asymmetry in the threat, which exists.”
In this context, he noted that he has proposed to the Foreign Affairs Council a 5 -point plan, “so that Europe is present”.
‘This includes:
– First, the political solution, which will come through self -restraint and diligence of tension.
– Second, the protection of all civilians and protect the freedom of navigation.
– Third, the European Union’s strong involvement in the processes, which are being made at this time.
– In addition, we should not forget the gauze, because all the issues are interconnected. We need to enhance our efforts in order to have a smooth flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza and further reinforce the Palestinian Authority in order to be able to respond to the stakes, “Mr Gerapetritis said.
– The issues associated with the Middle East also concern Syria, relate to Libya, where increased migratory flows are observed. And it is also the responsibility of the European Union to be able to control these irregular migratory flows in any way. And of course full respect for international law, and in particular the international law of the sea, “he concluded.
